MSFW Receives Teaching Gardens Network Grant from the American Heat Association

American Heart Association awards grant to Montessori School of Fort Worth for garden programs

Teaching Gardens Network plants funds to reinvigorate school and community-based gardens across the country

We are pleased to announce that the American Heart Association has awarded Montessori School of Fort Worth a Teaching Gardens Network Grant® through the sponsorship of CAULIPOWER, America’s #1 cauliflower crust pizza and fastest growing pizza brand. The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all are boosting garden-based learning nationwide to support healthy food access and innovation in nutrition education.

American Heart Association Teaching Gardens are real-life laboratories for students to learn what it means to be healthy and how fruits and vegetables contribute to a balanced diet. These gardens can provide an interactive experience and nutrition focused curriculum to help students understand the importance of healthy food choices. Even now, we realize the importance of continuing to provide access to healthy foods for students and our community. We are thrilled to have Teaching Garden to do just that.

“Our gardening program is an incredible asset to grow not only vegetables but also the students’ love of plants and knowledge of botany. There is something magically fulfilling about growing a plant from seed, tending to it while it grows, and then harvesting the vegetable that creates a deeper understanding of our food sources and encourages healthy nutrition.” - Amy Henderson, Head of School

The grant funds will be used for more raised beds, additional gardening tools, materials for trellising, soil, seeds and PVC piping for hoop houses.
